I enjoyed these two shows better than I did any (save 2..Hartford first leg - first heart, and Hamilton - amazing show) of the 9 I saw on the Elevation tour. The energy was immense. Night 2's opening set was blistering and a full out assult. The Ocean was as welcome as a rarity as much as it was an opportunity to catch your breath.
I think many of misidentifying things they felt on the Elevation tour that were due to the events of Sept. 11. Those shows after that were special once in a life time events, and it is more of a personal reaction to it rather than anything U2 is or is not doing.
These were the best 2 shows of the tour, I will argue. Great setlists, immense playfullness by Bono, unrivaled crowd attention by Adam, laughing smiling Larry, and The Edge destroying us again every single song.
A great quote from a fan who turns to me during the first encore break:
"Sometimes you can't make it on your own...and sometimes Bono kicks your ass."
I couldn't have said it better. I was on the floor for both shows (bomb shelter for one, 3/4 of the way on the back for the other) and the sound was crystal. Light years better tha San Diego. Something special happens when U2 plays in Denver, it always does. Should be up there with those great U2 cities like NYC, Boston, and Chicago. For being what they are, San Jose and Denver do pretty well.
This tour has finally taken flight. Look out Pacific Northwest, and for those that have tickets to Chicago, you are done for.
I cannot wait for the third leg, our 4 are done for now. See you all in September!
