So finally the day arrived... 7 November 2006... U2 Live at ANZ Stadium, Brisbane! I had been waiting for this day for a very long time, to finally get to see the best band in the world... I've been a U2 fan ever since I was 5 years old, I grew up listening to them seeming as my mum has been a big fan since their first ever album Boy... The tour had been postponed in early March that year so it had been a very long wait for this night... but it was worth the wait, and even though it is getting close to 2 years later on since that night it only feels like yesterday that it had happened... it was probably the best night of my life...
The week leading up to the concert had not been good... It had been raining all week and the weather didn't look like improving... then on the morning of the concert I woke up and what did I see??? Blue skies and perfect sunshine... it was going to be a Beautiful Day. That's a U2 moment right there for you... it has been raining all week and then on the day of the concert the clouds and rain have gone to be replaced with cloudless skies and sunshine... only something like that would happen for U2...
I remember walking into ANZ Stadium and being blown away by the immense size of the stadium and the Vertigo stage... I'm use to seeing concerts with crowds of 20 000... for this being in a football stadium it was going to be up around the 70 000 mark... this wasn't going to be a concert... this was going to be a spectacle…
Close to rock and roll time and the atmosphere is amazing... every seat in the stadium is full, the oval is overflowing with masses of people... the Mexican wave is flying around the whole stadium... everyone is talking, laughing, singing, screaming... waiting for these four Irish super rock stars to walk out on stage... the atmosphere was so incredible that you could even feel the still night air quivering with excitement...
And then all of a sudden the lights go out... and you can feel and hear the 70 000 people roar and scream... U2 soon walked out on stage and totally rocked the stadium... There was not a person who was not standing and singing every word to every song at the top of their voice... when you could hear the start to Where The Streets Have No Name you could almost feel the whole stadium shake and move...
When you left the stadium you felt like you were on top of the world... it was the best concert of my life... and probably the best night of my life...
