The SLC show of the Popmart Tour was great. The intro was delayed in a myriad of confusion in which rumors were rampant about bomb threats, rock star tantrums, etc. From my vantage point I could see the band befoe they even came onto the stage. It seemed that Bono was pissed about a malfuntion. I bought the VHS tape of the Mexico City concert and it seems to me that the mishap of the SLC concert was not a bomb-threat, rather a screw up on the part of the tech. crew. The opening sequence featured the transvestite dancing on the screen and to my understanding that is the intro to the encore. This would explain Bono's anger.
Besides the botched beginning (which was re-done and turned out fine) the show rocked. They did a standard Popmart set. The new songs had real energy. Miami and Discotheque rocked really hard. Bono, semi-apopligized for not coming to the city for 14 years. The crowd was great and everything sounded really good. They did painfully short versions of 'Angels' and 'Velvet Dress'. The band was great. Hope they come again!
