This was my 2nd U2 concert. At the time the Torhout-Werchter Festival got the same groups on Saturday in Torhout and on Sunday in Werchter. U2 played very early as the 3rd group on the bill.

After the Roskilde Festival and the Torhout Festival Bono's voice was almost gone. He tried to hide this by making a "riot" of the concert. He climbed up to the roof and almost couldn't get down. He took a white flag with U2 in red letters out of the public, he ran to the PA and tried to make the people behind the PA closer to the concert. And I must say this was one of the better concerts I've ever seen. It didn't have the intimacy of the club show the year before, but it was obvious that this band had something special.

When people of my age tell about U2 it's mostly about the memory of this particular sho so it must be a special one.

I stood on the left in the front. You can see me at the I Will Follow Live 7" from Holland in the left lower corner with the black white square t-shirt. Someone is holding his arm in front of my face.

The concert was broadcasted in August of that year on Holland's Radio show "KRO's Rocktempel" and some of the song have been played on Belgian TV that year. Because of the broadcast it is a widely spread bootlegged concert and I think that's the reason why The New Year's Day 12" (later the CD single) contains the tracks Fire, I Threw A Brick and A Day Without Me of this particular concert.
