I think I might be thawed out by now... WOW... what a day, what a night! Who but U2 fans could turn a freezing, misty St. Louis day into a 'Beautiful Day'?? I came alone to this show (did my friends back home ever miss it!!) At six a.m. I joined the GA line and met an incredible group of new friends to hang with for the day (Hi Tonna, Donna, Jeff (thanks for the coffee and nips of Baileys!) and Keith!!) Who knew it could be THIS great. We laughed, talked, froze and didnt care that much about the twelve hour wait for the BEST BAND ON THE PLANET! (ok so the last hour was rough but well worth it!)
This was my third and most likely last (unless a miracle occurs between now and Sunday) Elevation show. It was my first trip to the GAs and nothing can ever compare to this!! The 5/10 celebration in Indy was amazing- raucous fun, the 10/15 "Church Service" in Chicago moved me to another place, but this show simply ROCKED! Can it be that U2 just keep getting better?? I think so! I feel so lucky to have been a part of it!!!
I wont list every song, we all know the basic set, but there was something very special about the atmosphere in Savvis last night. Bono was in fine form coming off of what I heard was a fantastic show in KC. Adam seemed jovial, Larry kept the show running and The Edge-- well is there anyone cooler?
Standouts included-- Bad/Whos Gonna Ride (I cried!), Bono's dance with the flag was breathtaking on Sunday Bloody Sunday- I still have chills, Kite(always a lump in my throat), Still Haven't found was the best Ive heard this tour and Three Little Birds on the end just made it, and if we want to talk a rock and roll band-- I Will Follow-- WOW!!! Twenty years on and better than EVER! GO Bono Go!!... Let those chimes ring out Edge!!!! Actually I could list every song in the set and say something great about it!
Personally, I have never experienced another band that cares so much about its "people", nor have I experienced a nicer collective of fans to commune with. I think "we" and "they" bring out the best in each other. Coming together in this celebration is definitely "where the heart is". There is good in the world and I experienced it last night! It is a reassuring feeling in troubled times!!! Thank you all!!
As a side note, after hearing horror stories about how GA folks were treated at other venues, a big thanks to the Savvis staff. They were great under very cold circumstances!
I do have to take issue with those "gawkers" who come to the show because it is the "IN" place to be, who come late and still get on the rail because they obviously know someone, who step all over people who have been there all day and picked their place to be a part of something really special- only to be blocked by beer spilling, cell-phone talking jerks. THANKFULLY they left before the first encore! Oh what they missed!!!!
Maybe this is more a "feeling" rather than a review but U2 have shown time and again how amazing they are, and is there that much more to say? They have and will always have THE JOB in my book. THANK YOU U2 for what you do!!!
It was an incredible day, and even more incredible night!
I feel like I can fly so high!!! I am EL-E-VA-TED!!!!!
