This website is wonderful. This review is being written in 2005, from memory.
Ahh, memories. U2 came to ROCHESTER??? Yessiree, they did. They must have thought we were a 'real city' ;) In my circles at the time, this was THE coolest thing to have a ticket to. Everyone talked about it and looked forward to it.
This was my 1st U2 show. I was 18 and impressionable as hell. The emotion of this experience has it tatooed in my brain forever. Even weird details -- like what I wore (?!) If I had to pick a favorite show ever, this would be it. It was cold and muddy. But something about the nip in the air made it perfect to see U2. It felt like Ireland, damp and cool. I wish I still had my ticket stub from this show. How much was it, does anyone remember? $18.00? My, how things have changed. Except them. They are still the quality band they always were, and they still rock the joint apart. Most vividly, I remember Bono coming out in that arm sling -- "I want to run!...I want to hide...." with that red background. A very moving opening. I remember a big banner hung in the stands that said ONE TREE HILL. I remember getting as far up on Edge's side as I could. I even left my friends, as if under hypnosis, just drawn to the stage. It was huge, but it felt so personal. I remember that guy who got up on stage to play the guitar and thinking how lucky can a person get. U2 was already under my skin, but this live concert experience is what drove them deep down to soul level. And they've never left since.
