Well, another tour opening. This was luckily the second time I got to see them open a US tour (pop mart in vegas was deliriously disjointed) but this was exactly what I expected - both good and bad. The stage and sound are incredible - it's amazing the care and creativity the band takes in giving their fans a first-rate experience. But the set list - and I knew this going in - was blah.
New songs sounded good - I was actually surprised how well Get on Your Boots translated. But to me, Vertigo, Beautiful Day, Pride, Sunday Bloody Sunday all sounded mailed in - Pride especially. Ultraviolet was a real highlight, and again the spectacle of the stage supercedes some of the more rote songs.
Look, it's U2. They know what they are doing and you know what to expect. If you are a fan, you'll go - but as always, there are no surprises.
