Tonight was my first Elevation concert, but after standing at the tip of the heart, I finally understand the overwhelming positive reactions on this tour.
What an incredible experience it was.
I saw them during the Zooropa- and the Pop-tour, but this tour is something else. So intimate, so much love and respect, so powerful.
But all that has already been said enough before.
So what about tonight?
Stereophonics did an OK job as opening act, but weren't as good as their concert I saw early July, mainly because the sound was terrible. Luckily they got that fixed for U2
U2's setlist was pretty standard for a first concert of a series in 1 town, with one verse of '2 shots of happy 1 shot of sad' as surprise sung before and after Stay.
Highlights for me were an remarkable long I Will Follow, Stay, Streets and as always a fantastic Bad.
Bono interacted a lot with the public, tried even some Dutch. I think he was in a good mood because he and also the others smiled a lot. Bono got two little girls on stage and walked and played around with them during New Years Day after he got a small flower of them. He brought them back from the stage to their parents during New York.
Bono thanked Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendock, who designed their clothes for the Pop tour. He also thanked the Belgian company who built the videoscreens and came to a final conclusion: you Belgians are OK. I guess he's right :)
Two other funny things i saw: Dallas Schoo measuring the microphone of the Edge to see it was at the right height, and during most of the concert a lightingman was relaxing flat on his back when he had nothing to do, hanging high up in the lights. Guess he got tired of seeing U2 almost every day of the last 4 months. I'm not so far yet, I'm coming back tomorrow!
