Great show Saturday night. One of the best I've seen from them. Took my g/f with me, her first U2 experience. She really enjoyed it, best concert she's ever been too.
Do I think there's something up with Bono and the Edge? No, other than what Edge is probably going through with family matters.
I think we have to remember that the "boys" are getting up there in age. How many other 45 year olds do you see racing around the stage at 100mph? Maybe Bono is focusing more on singing the songs now. I'm all for it. I think in the past his voice could suffer because he'd wear himself out.
This was the tightest I've ever heard the band. Other than a few guitar farts in the beginning, Edge was on fire for most of the night. Larry and Adam have never sounded better. And Bono's voice was the best I've heard in person. Other than probably tiring himself out on Love and Peace's drums, which lead to a a awkward singing of Vertigo, he hit every note.
My problem came with the drunk who stood next to me. I was in section 319, 2nd row.
He spilled beer on a pregnant lady and her husband many times. He kicked her chair, he swore at them for sitting down. I got him to shut up for a while by saying you've got a perfect view with them sitting down. By the end of the show, he couldn't even stand up straight. The couple ended up leaving the show (hopefully found somewhere else to sit). I wish they didn't have to experience that. That's the 2nd show in a row at the UC that I've had to deal with a drunken idiot.
This guy also ruined a few bits of the show for me, because he and the husband appeard ready to fight many times.
I'm just glad I filtered it from my g/f. She was able to soak in everything, and that was my goal. I'll probably look to see if tickets are available for the 3rd leg in Omaha.
Also, I wish some reviewers won't present the gloom and doom in their reviews because Bono and Edge didn't act the way you want them to. I still found the emotion to be there with every song. They played their songs probably better than ever. If you only went to the show hoping Bono would pull you up or slap your hand, then you're probably going for the wrong reasons.
I hope shows 2-4 go really well, and we get a great DVD!!!
