With eager anticipation, and huge expectations we arrived at the United Center early. It's been a long time since my first and only other show. ZooTV DC night two is a tough act to follow up on and the DVD's of late show how a nicely edited presentation can be put together.
The opening act was way to loud. I think the PA system was turned up too high or something.
This show was very good, and had all the elements I was expecting. I thought Bono took it easy on his voice during the first few songs in particular. I noticed that Larry while hitting all the beats appeared to be taking it easy and pacing himself as well. Hands down Adam stole the show. We were so happy to see him truly enjoying himself around the elipse. As it was illuded to, we think Edge was hardwired all night due to dead spots on the ramp with his remote. Again, the volume was up so loud that some of the songs sounded "metallic". I think they played the right setlist for the Saturday Show. It being the weekend and all, it is to be expected that the leisurely and non-die-hard fans would want to go to the Saturday show. They played a great set that would appeal to everyone. As we know now, this was the warm-up night to get the kinks out. Love and Peace and Vertigo appeared to have timing woes. From time to time Bono would not be heard and (again as mentioned) appeared to "talk" some of the lyrics.
Elevation was very, VERY good with active crowd involvement. The cat and the heart was nice, with the sound going in and out again. City of Lights and Beautiful Day got everyone going. They were actively trying to stay on time with the back and forth vocals on Miracle Drug. They pulled it off nicely though. Bono wailed during Sometimes, and New Years Day was great. They did the "classics section" extremely well. The Zoo TV bit was phenominal. Edge Rocked. Larry was on. Bono hit the notes right and Adam was doing backflips. One was sweet. 40 reminded me of the Grateful Dead playing "Not Fade Away" where the crowd just keeps clapping and singing long after the band had left the stage.
So the new stuff was pretty good. I still need to warm up some more to Yaweh and All because of you. The Classics were awesome to hear. The Actung Baby material was the best part of the show for me. "It's no secret at all !!!"
I hope they mix it up for the third leg. I can't wait until Pittsburg!
