This was show 5 of the Vertigo Tour. A special one for me as it was a surprise trip from Albuquerque for my wife as it is our first wedding anniversary. We managed to get into the bomb shelter (more on this later) and were interviewed by the DVD crew about our story (we met at a U2 show, suprise trip..). The band was on fire tonight. Not sure if it was a bit of an act for the film, but Bono was the most Bono-esque I have seen him as of yet. Very strong performances by the band. Overall, not the best we have seen...both Denver's were better..but still a great show by the world's best band.
The only part that was a disappointment was the continual let down of being surrounded by fans in the bomb shelter that couldn't care less. Someone else mentioned that Miracle Drug was a bathroom song...and this is completely true. I dare say a third of the ellipse cleared out when this song was played. The comment about US Troops got more of a reaction in the ellipse than either An Cat Dubh or Zoo Station (which is now phenomenal...a show highlight!)
A lot of the United Center lighting was used (around the 2nd deck) and the crowd was loud. The house lights didn't come up for a good 5 minutes after the "rip your face of encore of Vertigo" so I assume the band did a runner.
Bono signed for about 45 minutes before the show for lots (200+) fans and they actually closed the road behind the United Center in the interest of keeping fans safe.
