U2uesday: So my best friend, Meridith, calls me Tuesday afternoon to tell me that she just saw Bono & Adam leave their hotel to head to the UC. She was in the right place at the right time! The crowd sang Happy Birthday (what did else would you expect?) & a few fans were adorned with home-made party hats. Can you feel the love? This was the beginning of a beautiful day!

I must warn you...this review is not philosophical or concise, but it is filled with all the reasons I am and will always be a U2 fan. Read on, at your own discretion!

With all the disappointed fan reviews that I've read, I must say that I was a little trepidacious entering the UC. I quickly set my mind to having fun. If the boys could have fun, then I would have a good time. Can I just say that fun was had by all?!?!?! The show was AMAZING! I hate it when people compare tours....it's like apples & oranges...you CAN'T compare them. U2 evolves, just like the rest of us. The band is impacted by world events, emotion, & personal passion and all that changes over time. If anything, they are real. Their past is as much of who they are now, so it would be A SHAME not to infuse a little history into their present tour! And who expects a 'polished performance'? Polished isn't real, and I for one, appreciate the raw energy intermixed with the glimpse of sheer exhaustion that can be seen on any given night. As a dedicated fan, it helps me relate to the band...yeah...they feel it too...a life well lived...exuberance laced with reality.

I know you're reading this for a concert review and not for an editorial on my definition of a dedicated fan & an awesome band! Here goes....I had the best seats I'll probably ever get (section 101, row 3--thank you Julia & Doug & Mike!)COBL was THE BEST opener & really got the crowd going. I was amazed at how much Adam interacted with the crowd & I LOVED seeing the Edge rock out during the FLY--totally energized! Too little Larry time, but powerful, nonetheless. And Bono, well, the birthday boy was ON. It was amazing to see his countenance change when the crowd sang happy birthday to him--he was receiving instead of giving & it was one of those moments that is burned into my brain. This, my fellow fans, is why I love U2!

Back for more on Thursday...last show in Chicago...should be another amazing night. Maybe after the show I can compare Tuesday to Thursday night, since they are both apples! I'll let you know!
