Wow! Bono's birthday. 9th time seeing U2. Spent a beautiful day in Chicago with my wife and in-laws. It was 4 years to the day I last saw U2 (5/10/01 in Indianapolis) and I have to say that the build up and anticipation for this show was warranted. The band did not disappoint. After walking around Michigan Ave for most of the day, and dinner at a place across the street from Lawry's (I cannot for the life of me remember the name) it was time to head to the show. Spent some $$$ on t-shirts and buttons for our kids at the UC, bought some beers and took our seats in the last row behind the stage. Even though we were behind the stage, we felt closer than at least half of the arena. The playing of "Wake Up" told me what was coming next, I told my wife, "Here we go...", the house lights went down, you could hear the keyboards for "City of Blinding Lights"...I started getting chills and goosebumps. I felt like I was 17 again at the Joshua Tree show at JFK in Philly. 18 years later, these guys still have the same affect on me...amazing. My highlights were Vertigo, Miracle Drug, Running to Stand Still, Streets, Party Girl, Zoo Station, Original of the Species, and Vertigo (again). I thought the African flags on the screen during Streets was very cool. No lowlights at all. It was just a treat to be there and see and hear them again. Also, you can't beat a day in Chicago. I am looking forward to seeing them in Detroit on October 24th. This time, I will get to see the front of the stage!
