U2 play the opening ceremony of the 11th Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin, the first time the event is held outside of the United States.
Broadcast live on TV, U2 plays "One" with a full orchestra. At the end of the song, Bono adds the snippet of "...No them, there's only us," which will later become the song "Invisible," released in 2014. Bono alters the lines in "Pride" to include Nelson Mandela, who is there to officially open the Olympics and goes backstage to bring him out at the end of the song.
Other artists that performed during the ceremony include The Corrs and Riverdance.
Notable celebrities in attendance include Colin Farrell, Pierce Brosnan, Heather Locklear, Ritchie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi and Muhammad Ali.
The ceremony, including U2's performance is released on DVD in November 2003.
