Just got back to the hotel after a great time at the show. This is the thirs show for me this tour, and not the last (seeing the band in the states in Sept.).
I have to say - I feel bad for the fan seeing only this show on the tour and expecting to hear two of the best parts of the set - Unknown Caller and The Unforgettable Fire. They skipped those songs in lieu of some old favorites (see setlist) and especially to fit in Bad at the end, before the encore.
I have no problem with the band changing up the set, but they really should think about getting rid of filler like Desire, Angel of Harlem, and Stuck when substituting songs. It really goes against the natural flow of this enormous and beautiful production. And fans as guest players? Forget it! Utter garbage.
Needless to say, despite the perplexing song drops, the show was high energy and as good as can be. The mere fact that U2 can avoid 3/4 of their entire catalog and still not get bored with Sunday Bloody Sunday and With or Without You shows a band aging very well, with determination and a lingering passion for U2.
As an aside, I really loved this venue. I was particularly interested in the seating. I am about 300 pounds and the seats fit my body shape comfortably. Those U2 fans who are overweight - do not fear - the Amsterdam Arena has your rear!
