Rage Against the Machine ranted about the overwhelming police presence in the Cotton Bowl. Threatening the "public servants" with return gun fire if they continued to abuse their authority. Nice touch.
Then our heroes entered through the crowd and spent the next two and a half hours kicking ass. "All right, Texas." Bono greeted the audience. "This is where they invented BIG." Clearly the POPMART redefines BIG in ways even Texans could not imagine. Although U2 dropped "Do you feel loved" from the set list, the show did not otherwise disappoint. They struggled with "Staring at the Sun" but somehow pulled it together. For a town known as "The city of Hate", U2 brought out the best in the Dallas citizens attending the show. A very pleasant (almost loving) vibe permeated the Cotton Bowl crowd. It was a great show. Texas looks forward with great anticipation to U2's return to the Lone Star state in November 1997.
