Over the years I have been to 15 or 16 U2 shows, beginning with the Unfortgettable Fire Tour in 1985. I brought my 8 year old son with me this time, having brought my husband and daughter to shows on the last tour in 2005. I must admit I am lukewarm about the new album and do not think most of the songs work well live, although they are better live than the studio versions. I don't know if this is a good thing or not! I agree with other posters who say that the outdoor shows lack intimacy. U2 certainly bring more intimacy to a show of this magnitude than any other band on earth could, but the fact remains: the "spiritual" experience of a U2 show is sacrificed. This, I know, is NOT a good thing. Bigger isn't necessarily better. Ok, songs. Breathe is a horrible opener. Don't know that Magnificent would be much better. Three new songs in a row [from this album; wouldn't have said this about past albums] is MORE than enough for me to bear. Where was Stand Up Comedy??? One of the BEST songs on the new album and has been conspicuously absent from the setlists. Boots was good. Blue Room--YAWN. I have NEVER seen so many people head out to the bathroom and concession stands at one tim ein my life!!! The whole show came to a stand still. LOVED Crazy remix!!!!! Ultraviolet was great, as was Unforgettable Fire. Where was Stay or Running to Stand Still? Missed those. The biggest message to the band [Edge, are you listening?????]: bigger is NOT better--go back to the intimate indoor shows. That's where U2 shine. Enough said, good show. Not great.
