U2 Tours (formerly part of AtU2): A Comprehensive Guide To U2’s Live Performance History

I've had a few weeks to formulate thoughts on the Kansas City show. It will be remembered by most people, especially those who weren't there, as either the one Elevation show that didn't sell out or as the first (perhaps only) night that "When I Look at the World" was played. I'll remember it for being the night I got to make a certain teenager I used to be very very pleased by getting close to my favorite band. As sappy and silly as hero worship may be, on this tour U2 has given thousands upon thousands of fanboys and fangirls the chance to get in close and personal and for that, in whatever way I can say it and no matter how "staged" or "marketed" their performances may be, I want to thank them.

The set list has been poured over in multiple reviews so I'll stick to the things that I haven't seen discussed. For one, Adam was more mobile than I had expected and beamed a wide smile the whole night. The Edge works very hard at what he does and keeps his eyes closed in concentration a good portion of the concert. Another thing I was impressed with was Bono's almost agressive need to look his audience in the eye. I found it interesting to how many of the old standbys like Angel of Harlem and Pride still have the ability to be moving.

Finally, I want to thank all the folks who stood in line on that bitterly cold fall day. The crowd at the Kansas City show was the most generous I've ever experienced at a rock show. Hopefully we'll see them again next fall.
