WOW. This was probably the best U2 show I have ever seen. This was my 12th show since seeing them for the first time in San Diego back in 1987. I drove up to the show from Portland with my sister, who is from Spokane. I saw the opening night show Vertigo show in San Diego and I must say that you could really see and feel the difference. The band were looser yet tighter, and they were much more animated on stage. I know it's cliche, but I am always amazed at how this band makes an arena full of people feel like an intimate setting.
We had really good seats on Edge's side in the lower bowl. Bono brought a boy named Jason on the elipse with him during Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own and it was a very emotional moment.
I liked the changes in the set list...The opening combination of City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, and Elevation was pummeling and perfect. The Ocean, Original of the Species, Mysterious Ways...great versions of those as well. Gloria was a highlight...I have not heard that song live since the Los Angeles Coliseum in November 1987.
Finally, I have to comment on the song Vertigo. This song is such a fantastic live rocker and they played it TWICE (!) I have to admit that it was probably the coolest thing I have seen at any concert. Can't wait for the Portland show in December!
