OK, room for one more? This was show number 6 of 7, fourth at MSG, and my first ever on the floor. Got lucky enough to be scanned into the ellipse, and was third deep from the rail between Bono and Edge.
Seeing the show from down there cannot be described, and you can pick out things you can never see from above. Like Bono's voice. Which you could actually hear cracking from time to time. He constantly was running back for more water, and made me wonder how he was feeling. But if he WAS ill, he sure did not let it affect his performance level or energy. He and Edge were smiling the entire show, and they made many comments about NYC and the energy in the arena throughout.
Enough about the ending - OK, so something wasn't quite right. BFD! That did NOT detract from the amazing version of 'end Of The World' we got tonight. Oh my God, to see Bono AND Edge racing around the ellipse like little kids. Eletric Co. NEVER gets old, and sure is better than hearing IWF. (curious as to why they cut this "portion" of the show from two songs to one)
Yeah, like others who have been trailing the band since 1981, I'd also like set list changes from night to night. I know they are all about messages and themes, and like to sound completely polished at all times, but wasn't it better to hear the band get mixed up during Party Girl on 10/14?
I mean, Springsteen plays 10 MSG shows, and no two are EVER alike. Same with the Dead when they were around. It's time for the Boys to draw upon their 28 years of material and start expanding the song list. How about: NO opening act, a three hour show with an intermission, and seven more songs per night? Would that be so bad? Even if they had to cut down the number of shows, it would be worth it.
PS - Patti Smith sure is a trip! (literally, as well as figuratively)
