This has been a great year to be a U2 fan.
I made it to seven shows this year, and made it in the heart six times in all. I got to meet the band again, in Chicago last May. No such luck in Atlanta.
This was my last show on a truly great tour.
This night in Atlanta was nice in that the set was different. They played "My Sweet Lord" for George Harrison. Fused "Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" in "Bad." Took out a few over-played tunes and replaced them with older favorites. "Please" was definately the highpoint, although I love the full band version. I also enjoyed hearing "What's Goin On." But it doesn't matter what the set is like. It's the vibe of the room and the effort the boys exhibit that makes the show so special.
I saw the crowd from afar for the first time this tour, and have never seen such a unified and excited audience. It was a very cool thing to witness in these times...
