My 2nd show on the 360 tour, and quite a good night it was. Came all the way from Toronto for this one. Had GA's once again, met some very nice people down there, chatted with quite a few out there, nice meeting all of you. Yes like everyone else, spotted celebs there, Paris Hilton, Hilary Swank, Chris Kattan, Wynona Ryder and so on, but the show is not about them, they were there just like anyone of us.
I am going to start by saying that the organization of this gig was far better than I expected it to be, getting there with shuttle, parking, etc I was unbelievably impressed. To the people complaining about long lines, hard to get in, there were tons of ways to get in, most people would just sit in one line and think that was where they had to go, don't make it tough on yourself, I went through gate N and got in no issues at all.
Black Eyed Peas were a pretty nice opener, they are not my thing but had my fun with them, Slash was cool but the cover of Sweet Child O Mine was ok at best, though Fergie pulled it off so well vocally, and she was looking great.
U2 did their thing, played a much tighter and better sounding set than the last time I saw them. Highlights for me were Beautiful Day, especially when Bono did "In God's Country" I went nuts. Until the end of the world was great great! Breathe kicked off well live, I still haven't found what I'm looking for, it sounded amazing with 96,000 fans going along to it. Streets was great and even louder, Bono at the end just a giant WOW he says, haha. I don't know what it is, years ago I did not care much for the songs from "All that you can't leave behind" but on this tour they all just sound so great and more mature, like they belong as new staples in their sets. I'm still having a bit of a tough time warming up to some of the new songs live, like Unknown Caller, it is just a song I wish would end, but hey you can't have everything.
Encore was good, I liked how during WOWY Bono hung his jacket on the circular mic let it go up in the air and he just said to it "goodbye" like it was signaling the end of something.
That could quite possibly be because lets face it, outside of a festival show, how often are you going to get this many people showing up for one band, this just doesn't happen in this day and age anymore and this might be one of the few times we ever see it, so I was proud to have been a part of that. I wouldn't really call it a historical gig based on how the show went but just on the fact that everyone still came out, and having it be the biggest crowd ever at the Rose Bowl.
Either way a great show, good way to nearly end the tour before their last show this year in Vancouver. This is the biggest show I ever attended, it will never get bigger than this. Thanks again for a great night. Looking forward to the DVD, finally I was able to be a part of a U2 concert filming.
