Well, well, well. I have seen U2 a number of times. I was pulled on stage by Bono during the Elevation show in St. Louis to play guitar and saw them in Chicago during the first leg of the Vertigo Tour when they were filming the DVD and made it on to the documentary as well.
But this...this was the best U2 show I have attended. I was proud of the fans as a whole because of the noise level, enthusiasm, and singing along. WAY TO GO ST. LOUIS AND THE FANS WHO DROVE INTO TOWN FOR THE SHOW. The setlist was superior to to the fall show (although I did like An Cat Dubh and heard Bad). Original of the Species is my favorite song on Atomic Bomb and it was beautiful live. The updated Elevation is awesome and Miss Sarajevo was beyond words. Hearing Gloria was a personal highlight as well, that was something I was really looking forward to. The encores were fantastic. I want to congragulate the guy who got up to play piano - I know the feeling and am happy he got to have that experience. I had another sign advertising myself again to play Party Girl, but I didn't really expect to make it up again.
I had GA, so I went downtown around 10 am, but not to stand in line - I wanted to catch the boys on their way in for soundcheck to have some photos of myself playing with them autographed. I want to thank the very nice people who saved my spot in line while I went around to stand at the loading docks and thank Bob and our other friend from Madison, WI, who came with me. Everyone was very nice and Bob and I had lunch and he bought everyone hot chocolate.
We did, in fact, get to meet Bono, Edge, and Adam when they arrived for soundcheck. Larry did not come out to sign autographs, but that is usually the case. They were all so very polite and considerate about signing for about 40 people. They even signed multiple items; Adam and Edge signed my green Irish jersey, photos, and an album cover. Bono went by a little faster because he was in demand but he signed a photo of me playing with him (they all signed it...very cool.). He did take a moment to talk with me when he saw the picure and my shirt. I told him I was ready to play Party Girl with them and he laughed and asked "Ah, so your the party boy?" And after he signed his name, he wrote "Party Boy" under myself in the photo. Again, waiting for them to arrive I spoke with many people and everyone was so nice. There really is something special about a U2 show and fellow fans.
