I attended the U2 show in Minneapolis on Tuesday, May 1, 2001. And my life has been changed. From the beginning riffs of “Elevation” to the album version of “Grace” I witnessed an amazing thing. Wow. I was speechless, which is a rare occurrence. There was a sense of oneness that I had never experienced before. I don’t know quite how to describe it. I’ve heard interviews where Bono has described this tour as a thank-you to the fans. And it was. There was a spirit there that flowed through me. It wasn’t just the songs…I mean, yes, the band was definitely “on” musically, and Bono’s vocals were impressive, but what moved me was the passion. The “goal” was definitely met. There was a connection between the band and the audience that I truly had never experienced. Now, at other shows Bono has added a verse onto the end of “One”:
“Do you hear me coming, love (Lord?)?
Do you hear me call?
Do you hear me knocking, knocking at your door?
Do you hear me coming, love (Lord?)?
Do you hear me call?
Do you feel me scratching, ooooh you make me crawl….”
Well, at this show, he replaced the “me” with “us”. “Do you hear us call…….” What a connection I felt!! It was a very spiritual experience. The intensity was indescribable. As a young performer, I now know my true calling. I want to bring about that same spirit. Now I know that I can. Thank you, guys!!! The show was out of this world!!
