It was billed as a "back to the basics" tour or show. Having gotten "U2 religion" back in March 1983 when I first heard the War record, I was hoping to regain some kind of emotional connection with the band that I could ride for the next nearly 20 years of my life.
As I waited for PJ Harvey to take the stage, I recalled the U2 tours that I had seen in the Twin Cities...the Unforgettable Fire tour in 1985, the Joshua Tree tour in 1987, the Zoo Station Tour in 1992 and the Pop Mart Tour in 1997. I wondered, for me, would U2 still be the only music that "matters"?
But wait, that wasn't supposed to happen, after all...U2 is just a rock band, right? Well, U2 Elevation 2001 was like re-discovering your best friend from high school and finding out that the love, the passion and the soul was still there after all these years.
Long ago, U2 gave me the lift I needed to make a better life for myself and others. Thanks for the inspiration.
