After seeing U2 during the Zooropa-Tour in '93, my expectations for this event were sky-high. When I first got to the venue, I was very disappointed in the Winnipeg fans. I got there two hours before the opening act (which by the way was terrible) expecting to end up in a huge line. I was literally the first person inside the stadium!!!!
Although the crowd was dead, and the opening act failed to get the crowd's response, the concert was all that Zoo TV was, and a lot more. The lightshow went beyond all expectations, and the set was filled with classics, such as Pride, With or Without You, and I Will Follow!!!! Luckily, they left out all the songs from the disappointing album "Zooropa". Since I had great seating, I could catch almost anything that took place on stage, and both Bono and Edge seemed to be having a great time. Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton remains to be background decorations who carry the fantastic grooves of U2's extravagant show.
The highlight for me was when Bono picked a young lady out of the crowd and danced with her on stage.
For me, the Popmart show walks all over anything that U2 has ever done. I'd say it's one step closer and further, to what U2 once were.
If you were at the Winnipeg show, I'd like to hear your opinion on it.
