The second night in Auckland was much the same as the first. Both the band and the crowd were energetic and ready for a strong show. The only change to the setlist was the 2019 Tour debut of “You’re The Best Thing About Me.” The version they played was the same as it was in 2018. Otherwise, the only other differences were a few subtle snippet changes, including a fairly long “Fall At Your Feet” by Crowded House snippet.
The show was remarkable for one reason: Bono passing off the mic to Larry and The Edge. After mentioning their involvement in a country band called Drifting Cowboys, Larry discussed learning the foxtrot before demonstrating it. The Edge said the lesson he learned was that there was “no money in rock and roll.”
Bono again dedicated “One Tree Hill” to Greg Carroll. His family was at the show, so the performance was emotionally charged. He also gave a shout to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who is also in the crowd. Ardern also appeared on the screen during “Ultraviolet (Light My Way).”
