Comments: This gig was originally believed to have taken place at the Old Globe Theater, a venue known more for Shakesperean productions that for rock concerts. But The Globe's web site explains that the venue was closed between 1978 and 1982 due to a fire. Other reports suggest the gig happened at the Backdoor, a club on the campus of San Diego State University, but in a 2005 article about U2's history in San Diego, Guy Richard -- who booked talent at the Backdoor in the early 1980s -- said that's not the case:

I passed on the show," Richard recalled. "They wanted $1,000 for U2, which wouldn't pay for the band's backstage catering now. I didn't think more than five people would come.

2022 update: We found newspaper listings for the Backdoor show in the Times-Advocate thanks to a tip from John S. We are still a little unsure if the show happened or not. The werid part in all this is, The Backdoor club would advertise theirs shows in the San Diego State University student newspaper, The Daily Aztec, but none of their ads mention U2. So for now we have changed the date and added the venue but we are still looking for further confirmation. If anyone has any info on this or other shows, please feel free to contact us!
