Bono and The Edge appeared at the 2000 San Remo Music Festival at the Teatro Ariston in San Remo, Italy. Bono's appearance was a thank you to the Pope and Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema for their support of his campaign for Third World debt forgiveness. During the televised appearance, Bono and The Edge performed two songs, "All I Want is You" and "The Ground Beneath Her Feet." Bono opened the show by addressing the then-opposition leader, Silvio Berlusconi by saying, "Mr. Berlusconi, please help Mr. D'Alema to help the Jubilee, this is not politics but people's lives." The festival was broadcast to an estimated 17 million homes in Italy on Rai Uno. The Festival is Italy's national version of the Eurovision song competition.  Pavarotti was on stage with Bono and The Edge during the introductions to the songs, but did not perform with them.
