It's official. The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 is getting an extension, with new dates added in both North America and South America throughout September and October. Public ticket sales begin next week for all shows, with a U2.com presale starting this week. Here are the details:
U2 will return to the United States in early September to play seven stadium shows, all in cities that they're not playing currently on the first leg of the tour. The U.S. portion of the third leg begins at Detroit's Ford Field on September 3 and ends September 22 with a show at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. From there, it's on to Mexico City in early October and then down to South America for four shows in four countries. The tour extension concludes at Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
(The list below is similar to the rumors that our reliable source shared last weekend, but is missing a rumored September 14 show in New Orleans and September 18 show in Atlanta. It's also missing a second show in Mexico City on October 4, Buenos Aires on October 11, and two shows in Sao Paulo on October 21 and 22. Those could be announced at a later date, or not at all.)

Public ticket sales: Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning next week: Monday June 12 for all announced North America shows; Wednesday June 14 in Mexico City; June 15th in Bogota, Buenos Aires and Santiago; and Friday June 16 in Sao Paulo. Prices will be the same as for the current tour -- as low as $35 in the seats, and $70 for floor GA tickets.
U2.com pre-sales: Paid U2.com members will have access to a pre-sale beginning this Thursday, June 8, at 10:00 AM local time. This is for any previous member who still has an unused access code as well as any new U2.com subscribers. The U2.com Help page explains it this way: "...the 4 ticket presale limit applies to shows that were announced last Jan/Feb and the recently announced shows this week. If you have used your 4 ticket limit already you can purchase tickets during the general onsale."
Opening acts: The official announcement says an opening act for the North American dates will be announced later. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will open the shows in Mexico City and South America (in addition to opening all 12 European shows on the second leg this summer).
The October dates will be U2's first shows in South America since the 360 tour in 2011, and the October 7 concert will be their first in Colombia. Likewise, U2 hasn't performed in Mexico City since the 360 tour in 2011.
The September dates have U2 playing several U.S. cities they haven't been to in years. U2 hasn't played Buffalo and San Diego since 2005, and Indianapolis and Kansas City since 2001.
