Buckwheat Zydeco has opened at 2 U2 concerts.
Louisiana born accordionist Stanley Dural Jr. was gifted the nickname of “Buckwheat” as a child because his hair resembled that of the well-known Our Gang character. In 1971, he began his career in zydeco after originally working with funk music. His band, Buckwheat Zydeco, was nominated for a Grammy with their widely praised album On a Night Like This in 1985. They played for three billion people worldwide when they performed at the 1996 Summer Olympics closing ceremonies.
