U2 has performed 198 concerts featuring songs from Original Soundtracks 1.
Original Soundtracks No 1 was the ninth full length studio album by U2, but is often not counted as such as it was released under the band name "Passengers". For the album, U2 invited producer Brian Eno to join the band on writing and as a full contributer to the music. As the project progressed they invited additional "passengers" to join in on recordings such as Japanese pop-star Holi, as well as Luciano Pavarotti. Many of the tracks were instrumental, or featured minimal vocals. The album was produced by Brian Eno.
The album was released on November 7, 1995. The music on the album had been recorded throughout 1995 at Westside Studios in London and Hanover Quay (HQ) in Dublin. The collection of songs pretends to be a collection of songs written for and used in movies, however, most of these songs did not feature in any motion picture. The albums booklet contains detailed information about the purported movies each song featured in, and most of these are non-existant.
Only one commercial single was released from the album, "Miss Sarajevo" which featured Pavarotti join Eno and U2 in the studio. A second single "Your Blue Room" was planned, but all that were released were promotional recordings of the song.
The album debuted to lower sales than a U2 album would have. It peaked at #76 in the US, #12 in the UK, and was perhaps most successful in New Zealand where it charted in the top 10 coming in at #9.
