My friend Mike and I got to Arco about 5:15. We had beer, which we drank at a nice pace. We got good and ready to rock out! We had already witnessed the non-thrill of No Doubt, so we timed it to where we got to our seats about 20 minutes before Elevation began. It was evident that even though the venue was smaller, the crowd not as big, this was going to be the best crowd of the 3 concerts/citites I have seen on this tour. The people of Sacramento were truly into it. It was an enjoyable show. Mysterious Ways replaced New Year's Day. Just like I thought, I was not destined to be present to hear Out Of Control in person on this tour. My lone chance was Thursday the 15th in Oakland, and I couldn't get a ticket. So U2 changed the set list, and played OOC in LA instead. I was mightily disappointed. But the version of I Will Follow was pretty nice, so at least that was tolerable. It's just that I have heard I Will Follow at every U2 show I have been to, beginning in 1987.
The highlight of the night was a great version of Bad. I went nuts at the intro to Where The Streets Have No Name. I just love the whole red light connection to this song. I'd like to know what it symbolizes.
No real surprises at this show. They played it safe, and stuck to the pattern. The folks at the last few shows may say some surprises, but there were none at Arco last night. The band were tight, and they played flawlessly. It was a pleasant concert.
