Well, I had my first experience in the heart and it was AWESOME!!!
This was my third U2 concert, but my first ever was here at Arco way back on 4/17/92 for the Zoo TV tour. I still have my ticket stub from that show, and the price for the lower level seat that I had was $25! That same seat would have been $130 now! What a bargain that was!
I thought it was strange that Bono couldn't remember being here back then. He's so good at remembering the littlest details of every city they have played in the last 20 years. I saw them in San Jose earlier this year and he said they played to an overcrowded high school gym there in 1981. He said early in the Sacramento show that he couldn't recall ever passing through these parts. Then later on he said, "thanks for waiting 20 years for us."
I think it is especially strange because they actually filmed parts of the Sacramento and Oakland Zoo TV shows 9 1/2 years ago. They were filming for the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert in London which was a few days after those shows. They ended up showing 'Even better than the real thing' from Sac. So they have partial footage of these Zoo TV arena shows lying around somewhere! If they ever make Zoo TV live in Sydney into a DVD, they should include this footage on a bonus 2nd DVD!
Anyway, the energy was great as usual. Bono did mention Sacramento a lot in the show and that was cool, because back in '92 he didn't talk much about the town. The energy for Elevation was above and beyond Zoo TV for this arena.
