I saw U2 at Arrowhead Stadium. It was spectacular and without a doubt, one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The criticism and cool reception of POP and the tour did not dim the enthusiasm of the 30,000 fans at Arrowhead. They opened with Mofo and Bono had a false start at the beginning, but it was very solid. U2 mixed old and new material almost seamlessly. Enthusiasm for old faves carried over to the new material.
The stage design is amazing. The size alone could potentially distance U2 from the crowd, but they managed to pull the audience into the POPmart and we were dazzling. Fun Lovin' Criminals opened for them for the first time on the tour and they did fine. They had a mellow and funky sound that picked up momentum towards the end of the set.
MY TOP 5 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN THE SHOW:
1. Bono's sing along with the audience during "Pride" and the impromptu "Stand By Me". He seemed genuinely touched by the clarity and power of the audience's response, commenting that "You sang that part better that I did."
2. Edge's Karaoke version of "Sweet Caroline". He had done "Daydream Believer" at previous shows, but even U2 could make Neil Diamond seem sort of cool.
3. When Bono pulled a dance partner out of the audience during "Miami". It was a very tender moment and he was willing to let her revel in it.
4. The lemon, of course, for Discotheque!!! It was more like the mothership from Parliament. It was so cool!!!
5. "One" was the perfect end of the show.
I'm also really stoked because they are shooting footage for the video for "Do You Feel Loved" here in town, shutting down the highways around downtown for a day and streets downtown for filming. They liked our skyline and I can't wait to see the video. This is an incredible show, go see it!!!!
