After an almost 13 year wait, we got U2 back in Cape Town. This kind of thing doesn't happen often in our corner of Africa so the excitement spilt over into the whole city. The 'gees' (spirit) of the 2010 world cup football was back with many reliving the fan walk to the stadium. The sponsors went all out providing a U2 walk with album posters and U2 hits blasting the streets on the way there.
I had seen the 360 show at Wembley stadium (2nd night, 2009) and have to say first up that the sound quality was nowhere close to what I experienced in London. It was just loud and lyrics were distorted.
However the performance was, as usual, mindblowing. Highlights amongst many for me were UTEOW(Edge's solo is a favourite of mine), Pride(dedicated to Nelson Mandela with a speechvideo embedded), the crowd taking on I still haven't found what I'm looking for which set the scene really well. Bono pulling off Pavarotti's piece in Ms Sarajevo is also quite powerful.
There was quite a long piece introducing the band and comparing them to wild animals(the boys have clearly been on safari), which I felt could have been done during a song rather.
The only (mild) disappointments were a rather lame intro (they just walked on with no video) and an identical setlist to Johannesburg.
I can some up the whole night with Bono's comment before the closing 'Moment of Surrender' - "you don't wanna go home do you?".
