This was the single greatest night of my life. It was a dream come true to see them live for the first time in my life. I was one of the 20,000 that made the three hour trip from Calgary to see the show. The way up to the Chuck was awful because of the massive traffic tie ups due to the nutty drivers on their way to the show, and the city sucks but I would travel to Mars to see U2.
Once we finally got to the concert, we had to sit through a whole hour of Fun Luvin' Criminals which were the opening act, they sucked. Then we spotted U2 in a van unloading and starting to walk through the crowd on their way to the stage. It was a very dramatic entrance and was awesome! The sound at Commonwealth stadium was outstanding and the stage was even better than I expected.
U2 began with a charged Mofo that got the sold out croud of 60,000 pumped up. Unfortunately the show began when it was still a little light outside because it was after all almost the longest day of the year. U2 rocked the enthusiastic crowd all night long. The highlight of the show for me was the best version of With or Without You I have ever heard, which is probably why they included it on the new Popheart live EP which is now available. It includes that song as well as some other tracks from the Rotterdam show, which includes the best version of Staring at the Sun. U2 finished the show with One and Unchained Melody which was fitting to the best concert in the history of the world. I can now die happy.
