After seeing U2 in Melbourne, Australia on the last leg of the "Pop Mart" tour, "Elevation" was refreshing. Gone are the days where you had to enjoy a U2 show by looking up at the TV screens because your seat was at the back of the stadium. The "Elevation" show offered an enjoyable view even for those in the "nose-bleed" seats.
The band made no spectacular entrance dressed up in costumes like previous tours. They casually walked up the stairs on to the stage and began playing. The band opened the show with "Elevation" and "Beautiful Day" and ended the show with "Walk On" which are all tunes from the new CD "All That You Can't Leave Behind." The rest of the concert was filled with tunes of old mixed with the new.
The crowd showed much appreciation for songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "Bad," "Where the Streets Have No Name," and "With or Without You." Bono also introduced the band members and they walked the heart-shaped "cat walk" to acknowledge the audience.
Bono mentioned to the sold-out arena that the band is re-applying for the "best band in the world" job. After spending a night with U2, I think they have the job.
