Last night of Elevation 2001, or at least the first leg. The repeat customers know the importance of this show because of the venue and the history U2 has made in the Continental Airlines Arena.
New Jersey is quite a dump. Women wear too much perfume and elitism has taken over this vast dumpland. U2, however, reminded these spoiled Jersey folk the importance of being humble while showing 23,000 screaming fans what success is. We all know what the band has done on the stage and more people are becoming aware of the work that Bono has been doing off stage (Does Adam care about anything?)
U2 simply reminded all of us who attended this show why they are an incredible live act, and why so many people of all different backgrounds groove to their beats. People may like U2 for their ballads, or Bono for his committment to social improvement, or the chemistry of U2 as a band, whatever, U2 has given its fans many reasons to embed ourselves in their music.
We all know what they played: a pretty standard setlist with the rare exception of Wild Honey. The standard setlist witnessed myself and other repeat customers converge with some of the slickest dance moves. In a Little While is one the best U2 songs they have ever recorded and POP is a record that should be released again in the US with different singles, like Gone or the Playboy Mansion, or Wake Up, Dead Man. Walk On is just turning out to be a wonderful live song.
I saw this show nine times and everyone left me wanting to see another one.
I can't wait for the third leg, I think we should start a caravan of U2 fans that trek across the country. Anyone willing to pay?
Much Love and Sex.
