Well….what can I say? A totally awesome night. The band was superb, the best i've ever seen them.
I had seating tickets for both the first nights at Manchester and Birmingham and was eager to get into
The heart with our standing tickets here tonight. We traveled down from Leicester on the train and started queuing around 11.30am. We were lucky enough to be within the first 350 privileged people and were issued, to our excitement, heart wristbands. We then left the queue and spent the rest of the day in O’Neils around the corner with fellow U2 fans we met in queue. We arrived back around 4.30pm feeling very excited and rather merry, just as the heavens opened and the rain began to pour. Everyone in the queue was soaked and to lift spirits we blew up a few of our 16” red heart balloons and past them around the crowd. Eventually around 6.15pm the doors opened and we could finally get some shelter. Once inside the heart I was absolutely speechless, I couldn’t understand what it was but there was some kind of magical feeling in the air and I knew from that moment on, it was going to be great show.
We stood and watched Kelis (who I thought sounded a lot better tonight, maybe it was because we
Were so close?) And then went out for more beer and food. We blew up a lot more of our red hearts
And together with a hand full of people tried to get a Mexican wave going. At first this was very difficult but we eventually managed to get it going. A short while after this Sgt. Pepper started up and the crowd became alive.
The band came on and the arena erupted. I couldn’t believe how close we were to them, at some points
During the show we were less then 2 metres away. Personal highlights of the night included Kite, Streets, The fly and Bullet. At the end, Bono, Edge Adam & Larry did a lap of honor around the heart, walking right by me and my brother….Unbelievable!!. I managed to get some awesome photographs of the Band with my disposable camera and shall post them up as soon as I have them scanned.
Thanks to the band for making it one of the best nights of my life and one that I will treasure forever. God bless you all.
Jon G :-)
P.S. Big shout out to the London boys and to Deek and Steve, who we spent this amazing day with.
