A band's last night is usually the best, and U2's was no exception. In talking to other fans who had been to one or all of the previous shows during their four night stand at the Fleet, everyone agreed this was their best.
Anyway, I did not get into the heart, as I had floor tickets, but I was right on the left edge of the heart, at the very front, near the tip.
PJ Harvey played a good opening set, and as a fan, I enjoyed it. "Down By the Water", "Mansize", and "You Said Something" were some of the highlights. However, the people around me seemed to think less about her. No one ever said it was easy opening for U2.
The camera views from backstage in the beginning on the screens were clever. Bono's voice seemed quite good and his stage presence was excellent as always. The whole band coming down to the tip of the heart, even Larry with a lone drum to perform "Desire", was brilliant. "Party Girl" and "Stay" were also excellent. It was also great to hear "Out of Control". The lighting was also very good, and the video clips before "Bullet the Blue Sky" were effective. Kudos to Bono for speaking out against Andrew Natsios's rather racist comments over the AIDS crisis in Africa before "Kite".
All in all, the whole gig was absolutely amazing and electrified. You can't be any happier when Bono and the Edge are standing right in front of you, less than three feet away. Here's hoping that U2 will be back in Boston: they could easily play a week in this city if they really wanted to.
