Just got back from the San Diego Opening Night:
At their best a u2 concert can be magical, at their worst, they are still the best rock band around.
U2 was definitely not at their best tonight, they seemed to be "figuring it out" as a group & Bono was not in his most commanding voice, backing off certain notes.
But as a fan, there was a certain attraction to seeing the beginging of things also: Seeing a tour develop with all the bumps & bruises you get out of the gate.
High Points included: Streets, Elevation, One, & 40.
I missed not getting: I will follow, All I want is you, Walk On.
I felt the new tunes didn't all fit in cleanly; it was less a well oiled & more of a hit & miss.
The sports arena has been newly fitted with an array of acoustic dampeners that helped the audio quality signifigantly.
At the end of the day, you cant beat U2 live. They are the real deal, and it will be fun to watch their tour evolve.
