My review of the show front the front row in front of Adam (don't know how I got so lucky.)
The band members came out one by one. I can't remember who came out first but Bono took forever to come out...he being the last. I don't even remember hearing CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS b/c I was stunned at what was happening . The light display was amazing. I can't wait to actually hear it next time. I also think that Bono's mic was not up to par initially.
The Edge had the standard attire...but he had a new guitar that had a bullseye on it. It was awesome.
Larry was wearing all black, I think. I don't know, I couldn't take in any more detail about the man b/c his chest and his arms were so stunning. I love his hair longer and darker. Michelle and I have been trying to rack our
brain to remember which song it was that Larry sang on..YES, he sang. He had a mic and was doing back up vocals, but sadly I can't remember the song. (Awe, but I looked it up on U2tours and it was Elevation.) It was so weird
to see him sing.
Adam looked down right hot in a black button down shirt with a red collar/cuffs and red piping. I've never seen Adam dress this way. He still had some standard Adam pants on but he was HOT HOT HOT and loves to work it with the ladies on the front row. :)
Oh Bono...he did do us a favor and got a trim on that nappy hair of his. It was even done. He has a few jackets he wore including red/white/black
leather jacket that hand album patches and words on it (reminds me of the
jackes that New Kids On The Block wore). None the less, he looked HOT! He
did wear a button down black shirt buttoned way down to show off his chest
hair and rosaries. YOWSERS! Oh and he sported a white bandana at one point
with a Star of David and Cross on it. There may have been other symbols but
I didn't catch them. He sang Bullet completely blind folded....even moving
to his knees where he knelt for quite some time.
MY HIGHLIGHTS...there were so many. The curtain of lights that they used
was visually stunning for which Bono pulled back and peered through very
sexy like towards the fans in the seats. He did this in his first venture
to the catwalk. Additionally, I liked the added touch of confetti that fell
from the ceiling when they came out. However, it doesn't fall on the first
few rows of the front rows. With the look of the light curtains and the
confetti and the song being The City of Blinding Lights, it made me imagine
this is how NYC may look at New Year. The curtains, from my angle looked
like skyscrapers with their lights on and twinkling. I loved it.
Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own was so beautiful and sad. He did
this one on the catwalk but I could see the emotion in him even from as far
away as I was at the time. Breaks my heart.
Electric Co. was awesome to hear live. But An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart was
even more amazing. Bono seemed to really be into it. He pretended to pet a
kitty...which I thought was hilarious and then he prowled around on the
catwalk like a cat which I thought was SO sexy! The interchange to Into the
Heart is my favorite part of those songs and I almost cried. I couldn't
believe that I was actually hearing it. From my view, the crowd was really
into it. It sounded just like the album to me...
Love & Peace Or Else rocked my face off. This was played out at the tip
mostly and Larry played two drums out there. Bono put on this white head
band and ranted around. At one point Larry returned to the stage to finish
out the song but Bono went butt wild on the 2 drums at the tip. It was
awesome to see him play and it was so exaggerated. AT the end, he made a
mess and dropped one stick dramatically. I believe this was on purpose.
This was an amazing song live one of my favorites!
RUNNING TO STAND STILL. It was beautiful and a very moving performance.
Bono played guitar so he didn't re-enact the needle bit from Zoo TV. (In
fact, this brings me to another point...the songs they did on the last tour,
weren't done the same way necessarily. The lighting, bono's actions, the
added words were all different. I thought that was pretty amazing of them
to make it fresh after practicing it so many times a certain way on the last
tour. Heck, I only saw Elevation 14 times but I know what part of the stage
Bono was headed and what lighting and what words were coming next as if I'd
practiced it myself every day. They had to unteach themselves and learn a
new...I love that they paid that much attention.)
I went bonkers for Zoostation (at the tip for a bit)....awe could it get any
better ? ....but THEN Bono returns to the stage and says "He's back....and
he's blind" and I was thinking "what the heck" and then they went right into
the FLY! I screamed even harder, jumping up and down. We'd heard that they
might play all the songs that they did play but the Fly was something we
didn't have any idea about. Oh man, I loved it. Bono was very 'fly-ish'.
Surprisingly, I loved YAWEH live. I like the song but it doesn't rock my
world...live it TOTALLY DID. Its a great song to have the fans sing along
too , which all sang very loudly . It had more of a kick to it than the
album. It was so weird to have Larry so close to us...playing his little
keyboard where Adam stands. He looked a bit uncomfortable to be that close
as he waited for the chorus to play his bit. That could just be Larry
though.
I didn't think it was impossible to exude any more energy but when ELEVATION
came on (album version, not influx from the last tour) I was suddenly
flooded with past tour emotions and adrenaline. We jumped and jumped and
jumped.....til there was just no more spring. Larry singing was awesome
too....it was a great version of Elevation. The pit went hog wild just as I
remembered it did on the last tour except this time it wasn't just because
the band had just entered the stage.
The way they ended the show was cool....no only with the full version of 40
which was phenomenal but each band member leaving just as they arrived.
Larry's 64 count drum solo at the end was awesome. The crowd continued to
sing a full minute after they left until the lights came on. It was awesome
and at the same time it was weird to end the show that way....I felt like
they should've come out one last time because the huge applause and cheers
was lost in the singing of 40 by all and then the lights went on. It was
awesome none the less.
My OBSERVATIONS
The Edge went out only once on the catwalk. He looked older and more tired
to me. It made me sad, I found myself thinking of his daughter...but his
guitar playing was as awesome as usual. It as cool to see him switch
instruments and sides with Adam for 40. The Edge also sang the bridge for
Miracle Drug solo. I love his voice.
Bono dropped the mic at one point and caught it at knee level. He looked a
bit stunned and so was I that he caught it. He did this on the catwalk.
Overall the guys seemed thrilled to be there but a bit more timid than
usual. Probably just trying to get familiar with the new way, new stage, new
songs...and as they do so they will venture out more. Bono had his moments
on the catwalk but for the most part was at the stage. All and all Bono
seemed to be loving every minute of it....Adam too. Larry exchanged some
good laughs with Bono from a distance.
The pit seemed more docile that in shows past. We only experienced small
bursts of pushing when Bono neared our area but it was relatively harmless
and mellow which seemed odd. The Pit crowd seemed a bit more relaxed...I
wonder if its b/c a large majority of them were let it way late in the night
so I'm guessing they weren't people that q-ed all day long. I had a limited
visual on the whole picture. Don't get me wrong, it was crazy....but not the
usual ciaos. Maybe better q-ing conditions provided less irritable fans.
Who knows ? It'll be interesting to see how the q-ing plays out on
Wednesday and if it continues to affect the chemistry of the pit. It did
seem that they could've also added another 50 people to the pit.
Kings of Leon were actually pretty decent live. (Did I just say that?) The
bass player is our favorite. His facials are hilarious.
I personally didn't really care for Bullet mixed with Hands That Built
America. Maybe it'll grow on me.
After the first few songs, Bono looked to be bleeding from the corner of his
mouth. Adam tried to get his attention but it took Bono a bit before he
realized this. Adam whispered to Bono at which point Bono got a towel and
cleaned his face...asking Adam if he had got it all. He'd been up to his
regular antics on the catwalk just before we noticed it. Later in the show,
it seemed that he had a large welt on his forehead....dark pink. It just
appeared and then it was gone a song or so later.
So that is my review.
