I traveled up to Montreal from Boston with my friend Kurt to see both shows in Montreal on the long holiday weekend. (For the lucky Americans that is.) The first thing I noticed as I checked into my hotel room on the 26th floor of the Montreal Marriott on Saturday afternoon was that a line was already forming for the GA ticket holders at the Molson Centre. At 4:00 PM that day there were four people camped out in line. This was a full 29 hours before U2 would even take the stage. I continued to check on how this line was doing throughout the day from my hotel window. As I woke up on Sunday morning at approximately 9:30 AM, there were at least 75-100 people in line. Now that is dedication. On to the show...........PJ Harvey was too blah for my tastes. She was having trouble with her guitar towards the end of the set. I do agree with a previous review on this site that U2 usually has lousy opening acts. The minute U2 took the stage the place really rocked. I've seen them play at the Forum in Montreal in 1992 and at Olympic Stadium in 1997 but this was definitely the loudest crowd I've heard in Montreal. The crowd with us on the floor was loud too but very well behaved. I didn't see any pushing or shoving. Highlights for this show included a rare playing of "Out of Control" and "The Sweetest Thing" when I used my friend's cell phone to call my wife back in Boston so she could hear that song too. I was so exhausted after the show from all the excitement (and beer) that my friend had to literally carry me a few blocks up the street. (Side note to the reviewer who complained about not being able to video tape the show.......get real.) On to night two.........
