Making the trip to Montreal with Jimmy T was an amazing experience. Staying a slapshot away from the Molson Centre, we were so jazzed to know that people were staying out overnight to be first to enter the GA section, to get inside the "heart" of the floor. Being in the GA section with our pink bracelets was unbelievable because everyone was friendly and considerate. The crowd was electric. From the surprise of "Out of Control" to the inevitability of "Walk On", the show was both raw and well-produced. Much more straight-forward than the last tour. The videoscreens and montiors added to the drama of the songs and enhanced the overall experience. The lights with the lyrics to "Walk On" scrolling across the entire arena was a surreal moment. The set list had a nice cross-section of their catalog, but also featured many new songs from their latest release. They also threw in other gems they haven't done in a while. Bono (Or is it 'Ginger Spice'?) also mentioned that this was the loudest crowd on the tour so far (Wait til he sees us in Boston for four nights!!)
Making our way out after the show, I had to help Jimmy T., who was spent due to the show and some Molson Ex, through the throng of people moving about in the rain. He made his way back to the hotel while I went on to several bars, until I stumbled onto one that had the new album playing through the open window/seating area. I went inside to see everyone from the bartenders to patrons singing every song. I met a girl, Denise, from LA, along with Susan and Debby from Philly, who were also at the show, and we enjoyed a great talk(These girls are another story for another time as well.) Denise and I ended up joining the dance crew for the album playing. There had to be about 50 people on chairs and tables, singing word-for-word every song from the new album. What a night and morning! This was only the first of six U2 shows I will see this year. In Boston, where I live, I will more than likely end up in the "heart" for those shows. Look for me on HBO!
