U2 in Atlanta on a Saturday night? Yes. U2 in Atlanta on a Saturday night sounding on top of their game? Yes! Vertigo! Something magical happens when U2 visits Atlanta. I am completely blown away, and my ears are still ringing. They rocked hard! Bono's voice was in tip-top shape and sounded stronger than I've ever heard him before. He sounded, to me, like he did on the Zoo TV 'Live From Sydney' video. My only gripe is that I wasn't on the floor for this show as I was during their visits to Atlanta on the Elevation tour. I anticipated hearing Miracle Drug, but was please to be able to hear Original Of The Species with Edge playing the electric on this version as opposed to playing the piano (His trusted Yamaha CP70) like the early tour versions. Highlights include Bono running around the ellipse about 2-3 times as fast as he could, Watching The Edge work the stage with his Gibson Explorer, Miss Sarajevo complete with Bono singing Pavarotti's part, Until The End Of The World, MLK!!!, and Bad! While nothing will top November 30th 2001's Elevation show (the night I was blessed enough to have played with them) I will always remember this concert as an amazing experience that will be impossible for any band other than U2 to better.
Cheers to the fellows & lady in the green Ireland t-shirt that I met at the 99x truck before the show. We had a good time doing trivia in hopes of getting better tickets. If you want to e-mail me my address is richardradford@gmail.com.
