After what I thought was just a typcial good U2 performance on Tuesday, tonight for the second night at Staples, the band just simply nailed it. From the first note of COBL...they were on fire. Vertigo kicked in and the place went manic. This is a song that will be staple in the U2 set list for the next few tours at least. As soon as the opening riff of I Will Follow came up, I knew we were going to get a performance totally different from the one on Tuesday. And boy was I right. The band was simply on fire tonight and the audience nothing short of manic. Still Haven't Found went over well but it was Bono's ab-libbing on In A Little While that got the audience going. It was simply great. You could totally tell how much he was enjoying himself onstage tonight. Sunday Bloody Sunday kicks in with Bono telling us "This is your song now" and we know the political portion of the show kicks in. Miss Sarejevo has never been one of my favorite songs, but after tonight...I can say I've rediscovered it. Bono simply nailed the notes. The questions of doubt people had about Bono's voice on the Elevation Tour can put those doubts to rest. The "power" is back in his voice on this tour. Pride, like yesterday is dedicated to Rosa Parks and when Streets kicks in, the audience is so manic it feels as if the roof is going to be blown off of the building. When the song finishes, Bono just stands there and soaks it all in. The surprise of the night comes right after One. Bono says something to Edge and instead of doing whatever was planned, the band performs MLK and dedicates it to Parks. Encore time gave us full acoustic version of Walk On and Wild Horses. It's just Edge, Bono and 20,000 singing fans. I don't think anybody saw Bad coming as the closer tonight. Safe to say they were all expecting "40". When Edge made that first chord...everybody simply lost it. The song is so powerful...a great way to the show with 20,000 people pumping their fists in the air chanting "People have the Power" as the band exits the stage. By far this show was the best of the five I've been fortunate enough to see on this tour.
