Back in 1980 I was bumming through a Tower Records just off Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, looking for some new tunes to set the mood for my two week stay in The City. U2. The name intrigued me, so I figured I'd give their tape of Boy a shot. From the first listen, I Will Follow was ingrained in my head. What I didn't realize at that time was I would see U2 performing that song 17 years later.
What a great way to start the concert. Mofo started it off, and seemlessly they blended into I Will Follow. What followed was true U2 spectacle - 2 hours of lights, smoke and mirrors. But more than all that was the music. Zoo TV seems to have sent U2 into a whirlpool of lights, but for fans of 17 years like myself, it will always be the music that makes U2. As different as each album/CD has been, it amazes me how the old can still blend with the new.
