I was lucky to see U2 in May. At the time, I was kind of bummed that we were only able to get 300-level seats behind the stage, but it ended up being AMAZING nonetheless. This time around, we decided to get into the Heart. So, there we were, at 9:30 am, freezing our butts off....and it was worth the almost 9 hours we were out there in line. Being in the Heart makes all the difference in the world because you can see their facial expressions and other things going on on stage. (At one point, Bono turned to the other three and said something that made them all just crack up). Garbage got the crowd going - Shirley Rocks!!! But the minute the first strains of "Elevation" started and the crowd automatically started jumping...I just can't describe that feeling. The house that Michael built soon became the house that U2 brought down!! It is awesome and overwhelming and it was a blast!! Although they didn't play my most favorite song ("Stay") and "With Or Without You" was not included, this was by far a better concert than in May (and that was a high level of excellence to top). The energy level of the crowd just pumped the boys up (and vice versa). They just melted into each song...there never seemed to be dead air or soundchecks in between songs. Each song was just an amazing experience, most notably "Elevation", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Bad", "Out Of Control", "Stuck In A Moment" (GREAT!!), and "Walk On". And Bono's address during the encores regarding September 11th was beautiful, sad, and strong - which is why the inclusion of "Bullet the Blue Sky" disappointed me, but I can't complain. I've been fortunate to experience a U2 concert live and up close and it will be an experience like none other.
P.S. In response to a previous post, the guy who played "People Get Ready" with Bono and Edge was NOT James Iha of the Pumpkins. He was a kid who stood in line with his girlfriend in front of us all morning. Earlier that afternoon, they locked their keys in their car so they had to pack up their stuff and leave it in our car. I can guarantee it was not James Iha (too bad!!!) - just a guy whose bad day got WAY better in the course of a few minutes!!
