Last night (10-17-05)in Philadelphia was my 20th U2 show. My first was way back in 1981! Philadelphia was one of the only cities in the US that even gave U2 any airplay. Thank you WMMR. Anyway, last nights show was nothing short of spectacular. There was a feeling in the air there last night, a more intense feeling. Like they were playing to please themselves, which turned out to be very pleasing to those of us in the audience. The show had more of an edge (pardon the pun) to it, raw and back to basics. I did not get this feeling when I saw them back in May. They changed the set list a little and then Bruce Springsteen joined them for an encore, Bruce can't help it he loves Philadelphia. This is the second time I saw Bruce do an encore with U2 in Philadelphia (he did it on the Joshua Tree tour at JFK Stadium too-Stand By Me). The crowd was totally into the show, Bono commented on our energy more then once, I think he may have needed the positive energy to add fuel to his tank, he seemed to be struggling a bit in the beginning but he was infused with energy and he was his old self by Elevation! All in all a great experience, I am really considering getting tickets for sometime in November and travel to a show. It was awesome! They have restored my faith in live music!
